Academic Biography
Vanessa graduated from Yale in 2005 with a degree in English as well as a teaching certificate having successfully completed Yale's Teacher Preparation Program. Prior to attending Yale, Vanessa attended Brookline High School, where she was inducted into the National Honor Society and scored a 5 on the AP Exam in biology. Currently, she is taking classes at Harvard Extension School in preparation for applying to medical school. In the fall, she will be a teaching assistant in a biology course at Penn.
Personal Biography
Vanessa ran track all four years at Yale and was involved in many of the athlete-sponsored outreach programs, such as Bulldog Buddies, where Yale athletes would mentor troubled kids in New Haven. After college, Vanessa, unsure of what she wanted to do, traveled to Costa Rica and lived in the small town of Nosara. During her ten months there, she taught English and reading to adults and children at the local library and also developed and implemented a curriculum for three American boys ages 6, 9 and 11. Upon returning from Costa Rica, Vanessa worked at a start up company in New York City for two years while running for Nike. Last year, Vanessa realized she wanted to pursue a career in medicine and so she currently works at the Laboratories for Tissue Engineering at Brigham and Women's Hospital and is taking classes at Harvard Extension School to fulfill the requirements for application to medical school.
