Academic Biography
Zachary's undergraduate track pales in comparison to the six-month writing assignment he received for the winter months in Alaska, but he also wouldn't discount the extensive writing courses he took at Harvard as formative for his profession. He graduated with high honors, received both Mellon and Ford Foundation awards for his research on high school teaching practices, and immersed himself in the education of the fine arts as a visual artist and creative writer. His pursuits in poetry took him to Michigan, where he earned an MFA in creative writing and received a Hopwood Award for his manuscript, Restless. Just for kicks, he recently took a calculus class after being away from math for some 14 years; he loved it.
Personal Biography
Zachary is a non-accredited chef for friends and family, preparing foods that travel a sine wave through Morocco, India, Thailand and Bolivia. His patience is expressed through teaching and cooking: his loaves of sourdough bread, for instance, sometimes need days to rise, while his batch of preserved lemons will take a few months to mature. He knows too well the value of their mellowed pride, though, to cut their time short. His favorite word-- peripatetic--succinctly describes his life since childhood.
